The Foolish Flamingo #17

7 Wolcott St.
LeRoy, NY 14482

2x2ft Barn Quilt - Village Trail

Note: Woodward Memorial Library (Inside)

This small barn quilt is located inside the Woodward Memorial Library. It represents the plastic flamingos that appear throughout the community every year on April 1st. The April Fool’s Day joke began in 1989 when LeRoy Historian, Lynne Belluscio, wrote a story in the LeRoy Pennysaver, sharing a tale of flamingos returning to the Oatka Creek and feasting on shrimp. For over 30 years, Lynne wrote a flamingo story on April 1st for the Pennysaver. In 2022, Lynne painted this barn quilt which represents a flamingo foot, and it was included in a flamingo exhibit at the Woodward Library.
