ATTICA — If you’re in Attica Wednesday, Thursday or Friday around lunch time and you find that your stomach is growling, Morluski’s restaurant is a new option to consider.
Owner Jeannine Morlacci, who held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting earlier this month at the restaurant, 121 Prospect St., said Morluski’s began serving lunches this week from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays.
“I just had to pick a date and do it,” she said of getting lunch service going. “We’ve been working on it for the past month. We wanted to make sure we had all our ducks in a row.”
Morlacci said she began serving lunches at the request of Morluski’s customers.
“We weren’t going to do lunches,” she said. “We were going to be a dinner-only restaurant, but the outpouring of asking us to do lunches ... the community asked for it, so we’re giving it to them.
“We have both our menus (for lunch and dinner) on our Facebook page, but they’re two separate ones,” she continued. “It’s a lot of sandwiches and salads and Polish and Italian obviously with our pierogies and pasta. We named some of our menu items after some of the businesses in Prospect Square, because they’re becoming our regular (customers).”
Morlacci said business owners and Attica Central School staff have asked about lunch at Morluski’s. The eatery makes lunches for staff at Attica Central School and at Attica Correctional Facility as well.
She admits people have asked her if she would start offering breakfast and her response has been “Absolutely not. No way.” She said it’s important to support the local diners who serve breakfast.
The other recent development since Morluski’s opened in February was the June 16 grand opening of both the restaurant its patio. The patio was ready not long before the grand opening.
“Our patio probably took about eight weeks to do,” she said. “We had to put up fencing, we have a big awning for people to sit under. We’ve got flower baskets — I got some from Thompson (Brothers Greenhouse) in Clarence and I got some from right here at Pudgie’s Lawn & Garden in Batavia. I had a very good friend, Kevin Lamb. He built my flower boxes — three of them, 8 feet long. He built them by hand for me.”
The Morluski’s owner said her husband did a lot of work on the patio for her.
“He put the tables together. He strung the lights for us. Batavia Fencing did our fencing for us,” she said. “They just put it up in June. The fencing was put up two days before the grand opening.
“We have six tables outside and we have a fire pit with rocking chairs. The patio is about 26-by-34. We have our Polish and Italian and our American flags flying out. We have our pink flamingos,” Morlacci said. “My mom and dad, Jeannine and Carl Nowicki, brought them up from Florida. A lot of friends and family came in for this.”
