Genesee County is conveniently located less than an hour from Niagara Falls & the Canadian border to the west and the Finger Lakes Region to the east. But no matter where you’re coming from, there are plenty of ways you can get to Genesee County to see the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.
From the East or West
I-90 (also known as the Thruway), runs horizontally across New York State. That means if you are traveling from almost anywhere in New York, you can take the Thruway to Exit 47, 48, or 48A and you’ll be in Genesee County! Our welcome center is located just off Exit 48, and our lobby is open 24 hours, so be sure to stop by for recommendations or information.
If you’re traveling from Eastern Upstate New York you can get on the Thruway in Albany and take I-90 west right across the state. Those coming from Niagara Falls or Buffalo can take I-90 east and be in Genesee County in less than an hour.
- Alternate East/West routes includes New York State Rt. 5 or Rt. 20 which run directly through Genesee County.
From the South / South East
If you are planning to visit us from NYC or the Philadelphia area, it is quickest to cut through eastern Pennsylvania and drive up through New York’s Southern Tier. Once you’re in New York, I-390 N will take you right to Genesee County via Rt. 63 N.
Coming from the Washington D.C. area? We’re only a 6-hour drive away! Head north through the Baltimore region, cut straight through Pennsylvania, and then routes I-99 N, I-86 W, and I-390 N to Rt. 63 N will have you right where you need to be to watch the eclipse from the path of totality.
Flying:
Commercial Flights
Because of our convenient location, there are two major airports you could fly into: the Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) to our west and the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) to our east. Both airports are about 40 minutes away from Genesee County, so we recommend renting a car after you land. You'll want a vehicle to get around our area, since ride sharing may be limited during the eclipse.
Private Flights
The Genesee County Airport in Batavia, NY, which has a 5,500-foot runway, will be open for private flights. Visitors can call 585-344-3100 to get an Enterprise car rental. The county also has a privately owned airport that can be used by the public, located in LeRoy, NY.
With bus stations all over the country, a Trailways bus is another great way to get into Genesee County. Take the bus to our station in Batavia, conveniently located in the hotel district for easy access to shopping, entertainment and restaurants.
You can also get right to Rochester or Buffalo via train. Amtrak has stations in both cities, so you can take the train and rent a car to take you the rest of the way. The Depew-Buffalo Amtrak and the Rochester Amtrak are both about 40 minutes from Genesee County. You can take the train from just about every major nearby city including NYC, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., and Cleveland.
No matter how you are planning to get to us, we can’t wait to be your host for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse and be part of your unforgettable experience!
