New Events: Joan Jett leading Three For All tour

Jan 22, 2016

Joan Jett still loves rock and roll, and the 57-year-old Hall of Famer will prove that this summer with a concert at Darien Lake’s Performing Arts Center.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts will perform as part of a triple bill of nostalgia rock acts at 6:30 p.m. July 27, the concert venue announced late last week. They will join Heart and Cheap Trick on the Rock Hall Three For All tour.

The tour is a combination of Hall of Famers that blasted out of the 1970s with wondrous guitar play and a “we’re here, deal with it” attitude. Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, Heart in 2013. Cheap Trick will be inducted later this year.

“My whole career, I had been dismissed,” Jett said during her Hall of Fame induction speech. “It wasn’t just a case of, ‘We don’t like her.’ It was, ‘You shouldn’t exist.’”

“It’s great to be accepted, but it doesn’t make me feel any less of an underdog. I feel like I’ve always got to keep pushing. That’s the way I’ve seen it. And I probably always will.”

The black leather-clad rocker focused her anger through her music in a nearly 40-year career that produced two platinum albums and some iconic rock songs. Her cover of The Arrows’ “I Love Rock and Roll” topped singles charts in seven countries and is still considered one of the greatest guitar tracks ever.

Heart marked 40 years since the release of its debut album, “Dreamboat Annie,” in 2015 and has never stopped touring. The group released a pair of live albums in 2014 featuring much of the music that helped the group reach its peak in the late-80s. Heart has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide.

With hit songs like “I Want You to Want Me” and the teen anthem “Surrender,” Cheap Trick is considered one of the best hard rock bands ever.

Tickets for the concert range from $25 for lawn seats to $95 for reserved and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through LiveNation.com, Ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Lawn four-packs are available for $75.
