The Genesee County Chamber of Commerce and LaBarge Media of Canandaigua have teamed up to produce an award-winning project in 2012.

The Genesee Chamber has been awarded a 2012 Excellence in Tourism Award for Visitor Services by the New York State Travel and Vacation Association.

Kelly Rapone of the Chamber approached LaBarge Media in 2011 to create a brand new type of digital signage application.

LaBarge Media then created assorted video vignettes promoting local businesses and Genesee County as a destination for tourism. The videos were broadcast in six different hotels in the county including the Clarion Inn, the Days Inn and Darien Lake Lodge.

This innovative use of digital signage to create a tourism channel in the hotels, along with the quality level of content, earned the state award, officials said.

The award was accepted by Rapone and Andy Callahan of LaBarge Media at the Empire State Tourism Conference in Albany.
