Cathy’s Crafts brings homemade goods to Attica

Aug 4, 2017

ATTICA — Cathy’s Crafts, A new craft shop in town is the result of, well, boredom.

Cathy and Gerry Freeman have always been handy, always finding new crafts to do and make.

“I get bored very easily,” Cathy said laughing. “I like to do a variety of things.”

And a variety of things can be found in her shop.

Primarily a sewing enthusiast, Cathy has also learned to make goat’s milk soap, candles, lotions, lip balm and more. Her sewn creations, such as pot holders and blankets, are also available.

Cathy also said that Christmas time has helped her become so well rounded in the various crafts.

“I like to do something different for the family for Christmas,” she said. “So I come up with these ideas.”

Gerry Freeman has some products of his own in the shop, too. A self-described jack of all trades, there are old-fashioned wooden toys he’s made, as well as other products.

Quite literally everything in the shop is made by Cathy and Gerry — except for the hand towels, whom Gerry’s 84-year-old mother makes — and that includes the shop itself. Gerry Freeman built the structure from scratch, making sure it is compliant with all zoning rules and codes.

In fact, when the idea was presented to the zoning board, the two said the board was excited about the project.

“I haven’t heard any negative,” Gerry Freeman said.

The shop opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 4. Its schedule is Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It’s located at 11212 Alexander Road — Route 98 — in Attica.
