ONWARD: GCC Fine Arts Student Exhibition
The Roz Steiner Art Gallery is reopening! Join for their first exhibition in two years! Come see nearly 60 pieces of artwork created by the GCC Fine Arts students.
This years showcase features drawings, paintings, and mixed media work. The title "ONWARD" was inspired by the perseverance the artists have shown in the midst of a global pandemic. The students have faced isolation, hybrid learning, online classes, and little access to studio space. Despite these setbacks, they have persisted on their path of creative expression. "ONWARD" offers hope for the journey ahead as we move forward in a changed world.
The show also features artwork from Jessica Skehan, GCC's new Arts Center Assistant. Inspired by the architecture of Rochester, and her love of science fiction, she transports familiar landmarks into unexpected environments. These oil landscapes were exhibited in her 2019 solo show, "Urban Dystopia" at SUNY Buffalo State College. Her love of fantasy and ambition to learn new mediums led to the creation of her "Fairycore" portrait series. These gouache paintings were produced as a cathartic response to the monotony of isolation.
