Free Fishing Days in NYS -Dewitt Recreation Area

Event has ended
Residents are invited to join Genesee County Parks, Recreation and Forestry and the Oakfield-Alabama Lions Club for some fishing between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the DeWitt Recreation Area. The program is free of charge. Fishing guides will be available to help anyone who needs assistance during the free fishing day.

No fishing license is required, officials said. The event is part of the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Free Fishing Weekend. Young people up to age 16 may come to the fun and have a chance to win a prize by entering the Kendra Haacke Memorial Fishing Derby sponsored by the Lions Club.
It’s requested that people meet at Pavilion 2 for the fishing. Equipment will be provided or participants may bring their own.
“This is a great opportunity to try fishing for the first time or get out and have some free outdoor fun.  Bring your own fishing gear or just yourself!”
Please pre-register for the free fishing day and/or for the fishing derby by calling 585-344-1122 to ensure that fishing equipment is available.  Walk-ins also welcome.
