Beyond the Wardrobe: Changing Styles & Influences of Fashion, 1880-1920 explores a period in time when fashion and society were constantly changing decade to decade. This exhibit allows the visitor to explore the outside influences on fashion like sports, motion pictures, and the Women’s Rights Movements, as well as see the changes to each sil-houette as time goes on. Fashion can be more than the clothes on a body that were outwardly visible, it is also what is used to accessorize an outfit or what is put on underneath. From hats, bustles, corsets, purses, and eye wear, how someone accessorized said a lot about how they viewed themselves by others and their position on a particular topic. Sometimes accessories even had their own language. This exhibit also looks at the deadlier side of fashion and what toxins where used to create some of it’s well known items. 1880-1920 was a period in time where people used fashion to present themselves and the ever changing ideals a new century.
