The Roz Steiner Art Gallery at the campus of Genesee Community College, is hosting a very interesting and immersive art installation by California artist Ashley Blalock. The artist creates a fascinating, site-specific crochet installation that infuses fine art and craft. The exhibition is up until February 24, 2016.
On a recent visit we were very impressed with the exhibition, after originally not knowing what to expect. A fun, adventurous piece, we learned that there are some somber origins in the creation of the piece. She uses the meditative process of crochet to explore themes of discomfort and coping mechanisms used to provide solace from the stress and trauma of modern life. Visitors to the exhibition can can walk through and around the piece. The Roz Steiner Art Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You should make sure you check out any or all exhibitions that happens here. It's a beautiful, small space infused with large windows bringing in natural light. It's a nice little gem in Western New York's art scene.
