Genesee County Park & Forest in East Bethany is a winter paradise for outdoor enthusiasts! Explore the 431 acres of rolling hills, maintained nature trails, a toboggan hill and more this winter. See their schedule of public programs to join a guided winter hike or nighttime owl prowl to learn as you explore the park. Snow shoes are also available for rent at the Interpretive Nature Center during open hours.
DeWitt Recreation Area in Batavia is the perfect outdoor escape for those looking to stay within city limits. The 64-acre park offers walking paths within the green space and around the old quarry. Try out snowshoeing or cross country skiing in the winter months to explore the park. New in 2023: Dogs are now welcome to accompany their owners, on leash, to DeWitt Recreation Area!
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Basom is New York State’s largest wildlife refuge and offers visitors the opportunity to explore the habitats of the hundreds of species that live there! Cross country ski or snowshoe on the 7.5-mile Mohawk Trail as you look for the wildlife. Or participate in a Saturday program hosted by the refuge to learn more about the birds and animals.
Darien Lakes State Park in Darien Center has miles of trails for not only snowshoers and cross country skiers, but also for snowmobilers. The multiple-use trails throughout the state park feature rolling hills and a few deep ravines. One of the main paths traversing the park is the Conservation Trail, which takes hikers from the Pennsylvania/New York border to the Canadian border. The park is home to multiple species of birds and wildlife.
