BATAVIA â There might not be snow, but there will be plenty of Christmas this Friday, organizers say.
At least there will be in the city.
A centennial celebration will kick things off â as it wraps up the cityâs 100th year â with a time capsule and legacy gift presentation at 6 p.m. followed by Batavia Concert Band from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at City Centre.
Folks will be asked to gather for an aerial photo at 6:45 p.m. in Austin Park, just before the annual Christmas in the City parade rolls down Main Street at 7 p.m. Watch out for the centennial cake float with its tall gold, flickering candles as one of many fun displays from local groups and municipalities. There will even be some free giveaways during the evening.
Kids of all ages can visit Santa Claus from 5 to 9 p.m. at GO-ART! on the corner of East Main and Bank streets while horse and wagon rides are offered on Center Street. Shuttles will take people to Holland Land Office Museum to see the Wonderland of Trees. There will also be a Santaâs Workshop put on by Home Depot from 5 to 9 p.m. at 109 Main St.
Centennial Chairwoman Krysia Mager and Business Improvement District Executive Director Laurie Oltramari encourage everyone to come out for the downtown festivities. Look out for specials being offered by various shops and restaurants, Oltramari said.
