Stafford set to begin bicentennial year

STAFFORD –The Town of Stafford will kickoff a year-long bicentennial celebration with a Founder’s Day party on March 24.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Stafford Town Hall, 8903 Route 237.

Admission is free. Those attending will be able to learn more about the year-long calendar of events planned for the bicentennial. .

Linda Call said the event will be the beginning “to an exciting year-long birthday party.”

The area of Stafford was first settled in 1798, one of the first of the towns in the Holland Purchase to be occupied. Stafford was formed in 1820 from parts of the towns of Batavia to the west and Le Roy to the east.

The historic core at the hamlet of Stafford was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Stafford Village Four Corners Historic District in 1985.
