Derek Reiss will lead local high school students in concert next month as the Genesee Orleans All Star Jazz Ensemble.
The group, featuring 17 student musicians from a half-dozen schools, will be the opening act at the Third Annual Evening of Jazz on March 4 at Stuart Steiner Theater in the Genesee Center for the Arts at Genesee Community College, 1 College Rd., Batavia.
The ensemble will play before the Glenn Miller Orchestra in a concert hosted by the Genesee Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Foundation.
Students from Albion, Alexander, Batavia, Elba, Medina and Oakfield-Alabama are participating. They were nominated by their school music teachers. The concert begins at 2 p.m.
Tickets, which cost $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $15 for students, are available in Batavia at Roxy's Music Store, 228 Main St., GCASA, 430 East Main St., Genesee County Office for the Aging, 2 Bank St., and the Center for the Arts box office; and in Albion at GCASA, 438 West Ave., and Orleans County Chamber of Commerce, 201 North Main St.
