In 1910 Lawrence Byrnes was stopping in Batavia to visit a friend on Exchange Street. His friend worked at the Buffalo Glass Company. Mr. Byrnes was from the town of Hawley in northeastern Pennsylvania where he was employed as a glass cutter at the Maple City Glass Company. While here, he was convinced to stay in Batavia and accept a position as a glass cutter at the factory. He worked there until about 1916.
