GCC women's soccer team ranked No. 7 in NJCAA poll

Aug 24, 2015

BATAVIA — The Genesee Community College women’s soccer team begins the 2015 season as the No. 7 ranked team in the country according to the first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national poll, released this week.

The Cougars will return eight members of last year’s team, including all-conference and all-region selections Kayla Doyle (Albion) and Shawna Adams (Byron-Bergen). Doyle led the team in total points (44) and goals (18) during her freshman campaign and Adams was the second-leading scorer with 37 points, including 17 goals.

Genesee went 15-5 last season and advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament, winning the Region III Group B and Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) titles. GCC was ranked as high as No. 2 in the national poll in 2014.

Genesee will play four home matches and 11 contests at road or neutral sites this fall. The Cougars will open the season under third-year head coach Jeff Reyngoudt on Aug. 27 at Mercyhurst North East and host Mohawk Valley CC on Sept. 5 in their home opener.

GCC last made back-to-back national tournament appearances in 2009-2010.
