Chase has managed operations at all levels of the minor leagues and in the media, and on Monday, he will be in Batavia as the new general manager of the Batavia Muckdogs.
Speaking with The Daily News Friday, Chase said his mission in Batavia is to “virtually start a baseball operation from scratch.”
The unraveling of the team’s operations and ownership arrangements has left a wide opening for Chase — who has served in the same roles in the Pacific Coast, Frontier, Can-Am and South Atlantic leagues.
“I started in 1978 in Savannah, Ga., and have bene all over the place, I published Baseball America, ran teams in the south, and in the past couple years in New Jersey and Illinois,” Chase said. “(The challenge in Batavia) is nothing I haven’t had before. In recent seasons, I’ve specialized in teams that have had difficult pasts and need experienced help to get them back on track.”
“That’s the mission in Batavia.”
