DARIEN CENTER — If you listened to heavy metal in the 1980s and 90s, you’re going to love the concert announced today for the Darien Lake Amphitheater.
LiveNation announced Monday morning that Slayer would bring its Final World Tour to Darien Lake on Aug. 3. That’s big enough news on its own, but its the slew of special guests that make this a mega show. Joining Slayer will be Anthrax, Lamb of God, Testament and Napalm Death.
Slayer is often referred to as one of the “Big Four” thrash metal bands with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. All four bands formed in the early 1980s and changed the metal scene with their blistering riffs, pounding drums and overly aggressive nature. While Slayer did not enjoy as much commercial success as the other three, it is often labeled one of the most influential bands of the era.
Slayer earned back-to-back Grammy awards in 2007 (“Eyes of the Insane”) and 2008 (“The Final Six”) for Best Metal Performance. They were nominated three other times.
The band’s first single, “Raining Blood,” remains a metal anthem 30 years later.
Tickets for the show range from $29.50 to $99.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through LiveNation.com, Ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000.
