Batavia Country Deli conducting grand opening through Thursday

Oct 23, 2018

BATAVIA — With renovations and a summertime”soft” opening under its belt, Batavia Country Deli has turned its attention to a grand opening with specials to take place through Thursday.

Kam Sembhi Jr., whose family owns the Country Deli as well as the Alexander Country Deli and Bergen C Store, said the grand opening will include a gas sale. He also said the store will hand out doughnuts and coffee to customers in the morning and that the coffee giveaway would continue later into the day.

“It’s all fresh food. We brought the food service from the Alexander Country Deli and brought it to Batavia,” Sembhi said. One wall has a section for coffee and the menu includes “specialty pizza” choices, from white pizza to country sweet chicken. There are small or large pizzas available. You can also buy pizza by the slice daily. Different kinds of wings and boneless wings (mild, medium, hot, barbecue, etc.) are available. Chicken fingers are available and various kinds of “munchies.”

There is also Batavia’s Mix — two chicken wings, one chicken finger, two mozzarella sticks, fries, onion rings and eight in garlic roll with mozzarella for $9.99.

The daily pizza specials are: small pizza with one topping and single order of 10 wings for $18.99, large pizza with one topping and double order of 20 wings for $26.99. Both specials include a free two-liter bottle of soda.

Breakfast sandwiches and breakfast pizza are available as well.

Asked what is the most popular item on the menu, Sembhi said, “I would say a lot of it is the daily specials we do, with the free two-liter — usually the large pizza, two-liter and two orders of wings.”

The store does not have a grill and, as a result, can’t offer hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

In general, the Sembhi family wants to expand its brand of clean stores and great customer service.

“We’ve been pretty good as far as fielding clientele. Having name recognition from Alexander helps ...” Sembhi said. “When you walk in here, they know it’s going to be a clean store. The staff is real friendly. We have six employees here (in Batavia).

“We want to bring a good service to this side of town. There wasn’t a lot here,” he said. “Thanks (to local residents) for supporting us and helping us grow and helping us be a part of the community with them.”

The Batavia Country Deli store is open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week. The deli is open from 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m. each day.
