BATAVIA — The Genesee County Agricultural Society is ready to bring the County Fair back this July after its cancellation in 2020.
With the needed safety protocols in place, of course.
“We are ready to move forward with the 2021 Genesee County Fair being an in-person event, but recognize the need to ensure that there is a plan in place that is supported by the New York State Department of Health and local officials,” said Amanda Gallo, president of the Agricultural Society. “These plans are to help to ensure the safety of all exhibitors, vendors and visitors.
Genesee County Fair dates are planned for July 24 to 31. The society has been discussing all options on whether it can move forward with planning an in-person/live fair this July, Gallo said.
“During this time we will continue to communicate with our Genesee County officials as well as monitoring other large events in the county and state to ensure we can offer a safe environment,” the society president said. “We will also be working closely with the Genesee County 4-H Programs to come up with schedules, safety plans and items that are necessary when planning the 2021 fair. We want to ensure that our youth are given the opportunity to show and enjoy their animals and other projects.”
The county Agricultural Society thanks residents for their patience as planning for the fair continues, Gallo said.
“Our hope is to be able to host the Genesee County Fair in-person for our community to enjoy. We will be sharing information on our Facebook page, Instagram, website and other social media avenues,” she said. “We look forward to seeing you all in July!”
At the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Marketing Director Kelly Rapone said she was in touch with fair organizers Monday. She said if the Agricultural Society goes ahead with the fair, the Chamber of Commerce will support it.
“Since 2017, we’ve done cooperative advertising with them. I reached out to them several weeks ago to let them know that should they be able to continue with the fair, we are making the funds available to them,” Rapone said. “My role in it is to support them with advertising and marketing once all the details are finalized. Our cooperation with them is mainly for PR and social media and advertising. I wanted to just make sure they understand that we have some funds set aside to help them this year.”
